Snack

"Hey, Ali, would you like a graham cracker?" I ask.

"Oh, yes, I want a graham crapper" she replies.

Some have asked why Emmalena wasn't in the picture out at the airfield today. She was in school and I had such short notice that I couldn't have picked her up and made it on time. Isabella just happened to be home sick today. LUCKY as Emmalena keeps saying - I will probably never hear the end of this!

New Blog

I am starting another blog. Here is the link.

Once I get some sleep I will start posting some stories.

The Big Jump

Jimmy has been on the waiting list for months to "jump" out at the Air Force Academy. Yesterday he got the call that his name had come up and so he reported to the Air Field at 8AM this morning.
He did a tandem jump with a Sargeant who has over 700 jumps. The jumped from 11,000 feet, free fell for 10 seconds and then glided for 35 more seconds until they landed. There was no wind today to slow their descent so they landed hard and fast. Rears are not meant for landing gear! Jimmy said it was amazing. We took the girls to Panera after he got out of his gear and he was still in shock from the whole experience! But, he did say it was the thrill of a lifetime.

It's a bird, it's a plane, no it's Jimmy!

That's gonna leave a mark...

Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!

Did I really just jump out of a plane?

Jimmy and the Sargeant he jumped with.

Funny hat, cute girls.

It's always harder putting stuff back in than taking it out.

Enough

Okay, I am tired. I am so tired I feel like I am going to barf. Not vomit or be sick but barf. How did I survive the baby years?

The night before last I took a 12 hour Sudafed and it kept me up ALL night. I fell asleep around 4AM and had to get up at 6:45 to get the girls ready for school. Oddly enough, I wasn't tired yesterday. I think I am going to start taking Sudafed instead of drinking coffee because I was wired all day! Last night I couldn't sleep either. I didn't take any Sudafed so I don't know what the problem was, but I didn't get to sleep until 3AM. Today, I am most definitely NOT wired. I overslept and so Emmalena missed her 7:30 handbell practice and then I hissed and growled at anyone who spoke to me before I had my coffee. I have had three cups now and it isn't helping. Isabella is home sick again and I may have to bribe her to keep an eye on Ali while I take a nap. Bedtime is 9 hours and 40 minutes away and I don't think I can make it that long!

I have friends who have insomnia and while I have felt compassion for them, I didn't really get it until now. I have now idea how they function. I have only been up for two nights and I am barely functional. I don't know how you all do it!

Update

My eye is still not twitching. This is the longest that it hasn't twitched since it started back in July. I don't have to worry about the doctor thinking I am a moron because Isabella came down with a fever and a cough last night so I had to cancel my appointment anyway!

Figures

I have an appointment tomorrow with a neurologist to look at my eye. I made it months ago and wouldn't you know that my stopped twitching on Friday. I am still going to go to my appointment, because I know my eye will start twitching again, but the doctor is probably going to think I am a moron!

Huh?

Do you remember the episode from Friends where Phoebe has a cold and loves the way it makes her voice sound sexy when she sings?

Well, I have a cold and I love the way I can't hear anything! What a gift! I feel like my family has turned everything down about 40%. It is awesome. They scream and holler and I can barely hear them. Lovely for me!

If you remember the episode, you must recall how Phoebe is upset when she gets better and her sexy voice is gone. I know I am going to be glad to feel better, but I am going to miss the natural earplugs.

Good Times

There are some people that you just know you will be friends with forever, even if you don't see them for years at a time, or speak with them for months on end. But, you are grateful for and blessed by their friendship. My friend Vanessa is one of those people. I met her through Jimmy, and to tell the truth I was a little jealous of her for the first few years I knew her. She was so smart, sweet and beautiful. I am no longer jealous of her (I love her too much for that,) but I do have a bit of hero worship going on.

Vanessa is one of my heroes for these reasons:

She is smart - she became a pediatrician!
She is a very hard worker - see above accomplishment.
I have NEVER heard her say a bad thing about anyone.
She is brave - she is all of 5'2" (maybe) and married a man who is 6'9" and had 5 children with him.
She is VERY, VERY brave -When her twins were born, she had 5 children under the age of 6.
She is extremely patient and emanates a sense of love - you feel better just being around her and she makes you want to be a better person.
She never complains. Never. I mean it. I have never heard her complain.

Last year, my sweet friend Vanessa had to spend three days in a hotel room. Long story short, she had become ill, and had to have her thyroid radiated. She couldn't be around anyone and so she was shipped off to a hotel until she stopped glowing. What do you think this mother of 5 small children did while in the hotel?

Sleep, order room service, sleep, read, sleep, paint her nails, sleep and watch TV like the rest of us would have done, right?

No, Vanessa WROTE A CHILDREN'S BOOK. And that is one more reason why she is one of my heroes!

While we were in Albuquerque, we were able to see Vanessa and her husband Notch, along with their beautiful children. Vanessa's sister Andrea was also at the house with her husband and three children. Are you counting? There were 11 children in the house all under the age of 10 ! Vanessa's oldest is the only boy among them so it was estrogen city! It was a blast. The older kids were running around like banshees and the babies were falling asleep left and right in the middle of all the chaos. It was like a Narcolepsy convention. Every time I turned around I saw a little girl passed out on a couch or a parent. It was great! The guys went out and picked up pizza from Dion's, our favorite pizza place when we were in college. I think they were all desperate for some other males to talk to and enjoyed a conversation void of anything feminine. We went through 5 or 6 pizzas, a case of Capri Suns and half a case of Hansens soda from Costco. It was fabulous!

We had to tear ourselves away, but we did get a copy of Vanessa's book, and lots of memories to hold us until the next time. I don't know when it will be, but I know that doesn't matter. Whether we get our broods together this summer or in three years, it will seem like we just saw each other yesterday, and we will pick up right where we left off.

Introduction

I am a beach girl living in the mountains with a beach boy who also lives in the mountains. Mountains are cheap, beaches are expensive. But we still long for them. Soon enough, we will be a beach family. I can't wait! It is going to be so much fun hanging out on the beach with the girls. I grew up going to the beach on weekends and weekdays when my mom had a day off. I loved it. (The only time I ever ditched an entire day of school, I went to the beach. An hour of detention for a day in the sun - totally worth it!)

Poor Ali had never been to the beach until last week. Like countless children before her, she got right to digging and didn't want to leave after the sun had set and we were freezing!

PS - My mom still hasn't gotten over me ditching school. She still brings it up.
Probably because I yelled out a guilt ridden "I love you!" before heading out the door. It should have been a big clue for her, but she just thought I was being nice I guess.
PPS - We went to the beach on Jimmy's birthday. The picture of he and Ali is his official birthday portrait. :)

Maybe, maybe not

Last night, as I was falling asleep, I started thinking about my blog. Mostly about how I haven't posted any Christmas pictures or any pictures from our road trip. We drove through Albuquerque, on to Phoenix, dropped the older girls off with my mom and then headed to San Diego for a very brief 42 hours (not even two full days!). 2,000+ miles in 8 days with three children. I ate every piece of See's candy that was given or sent to me while we were in the car. Open containers are illegal, remember?

Did I tell you we are moving to San Diego? Next June or July. Jimmy will be attending the University of San Diego for three years while he gets a PhD in philosophy focusing on leadership studies. I am going to get some higher education down at the beach.

My sister in law changed the name of her blog when their family relocated from California to Portland.
Last night I thought about renaming the blog to Threeshells when we move to San Diego.
Don't worry, I don't think I will.
